Lobia & Rajma Curry

Very healthy, innovative and quick recipe of cooking rajma and lobia in a spicy thick onion-tomato based gravy.This dish includes lots of Indian spices.Its a rich and filling winter warmer and can be enjoyed with rice or naan, chapati or roti breads.  A little dish of salad on the side or a lentil dal will also complement this dish.



Ingredients :

Rajma : 1 cup
Lobia : 1 cup
Onion : 2, finely chopped
Ginger-garlic paste : 11/2 tsp
Tomato : 1, chopped
Turmeric powder : 1 tsp
Red chilli powder : 1 tsp
Roasted cumin-coriander powder : 1 1/2 tsp.
Garam masala powder : 1 tbsp.
Bay leave : 1
Cumin seeds : 1 tsp.
Asafetida powder : 1/4 tsp.
Salt to taste

Method :

Wash and soak Rajma(red kidney beans) and lobia(black eyed beans) overnight or 8-10 hours. Pressure cook it until it is soft.

Heat butter/oil in a thick bottomed pan, seasoning with cumin seeds, bay leaf, asafetida pwd and allow to crackle.

Add chopped onion, saute to golden. Then add ginger-garlic paste and chopped tomato, cook for tomato mashy.

Now add turmeric powder, red chilly powder, roasted cumin-coriander powder, garam masala powder and salt, stir well.

Add boiled rajma and lobia, mix well with masala. Allow to cook until, oil separates. Add 1 cup water and allow to cook covered for 5 mins. Once the Masala goes thick consistency, remove from flame.

Serve hot with Roti, Chapati, Variety rice or Steamed white rice.
