Janmashtami also known as Sri Krishna Jayanthi or Gokulashtami  is the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna and is celebrated all over India. Today , I prepared this yummy gulab jamun for Lord Krishna and I am glad to share the awesome recipe with you all ..:)

Ingredients :

Gits Gulab Jamun Mix - Store bought 1 box
Milk powder - 2 tbsp
Milk - as required to make the dough

Cooking/Baking Soda – 3 pinches ( 1 pinch would be 1/8th of tsp )
Sugar – 3 cups
Water – 1 cup
Cardamom – 4 pods ( I used 1/4 tsp cardamom powder )
Saffron – a few
Rose water/essence - 2-3 drops

Method :

For the syrup ~

Combine sugar and water in a flat bottomed broad pan and simmer on low heat until sugar dissolves. Add cardamom powder, rose essence and saffron and keep the sugar syrup on low heat.

For Gulab Jamun ~

Take a big bowl, add the gits gulab jamun mix, milk powder and mix well. Add some milk and mix them into a fine soft dough.

Now it's time to wash your hands and wipe. Apply few drops ghee on a plate using your hand.

Divide dough into 18 or 16 small balls. As you roll a ball place it on oiled plate.

Take a pan, take oil and heat well at medium flame and fry these balls until they turn golden brown color. You have to be very careful in maintaining the temperature of the oil,Gulab jamuns will slowly rise to the top if it is fried in the correct temperature. When they are browned on all sides, slowly remove it from oil and put immediately in the warm sugar syrup.

Keep them undisturbed in the warm sugar syrup for atleast 3o minutes.

That's it yummy, mouth watering gulab jamun's are ready to go...

Sending this to Nivedhanam's "Authentic Indian Sweets" event, Divya's "SNC celebration"
